The Biotech Startup Academy and related programs
82VS is excited to launch the Biotech Startup Academy (BSA) in Dallas, Texas, with the inaugural class recruiting in February 2025. This is a first of its kind program, designed to bring together and train cohorts of biotech startup executives anchored in the Dallas ecosystem. The BSA is a hybrid, program, which emerged from the training and mentorship provided to our venture partners and venture associates in the Boston region. The BSA is a seven-week course, which combines 2-3 day immersive, in person, sessions with on-line engagement in between. The class cycle begins with recruiting candidates and interacting with corporate sponsors followed by coordinating and executing the BSA sessions and consistent follow up with the alumni. The BSA also has an element of content creation where top professionals will be interviewed in a podcast-style session which will be provided to a closed audience. In addition to the BSA, the Director of the BSA will support the 82VS Pegasus Fellows program where members are selected from the BSA cohorts and provided a stipend for a 10-month fellowship that supports them to start a biotech company.

The Team

Our Dallasbased operation works closely with our internal Alloy and 82VS team members primarily located in our global headquarters in Waltham, MA, as well as our Dallas collaborators at BioLabs and Pegasus Park. This Director position is the first full-time hire to lead the Dallas operation at our Pegasus Park site, working closely with the General Partner and President and Head of 82VS Dallas. As a startup inside an exciting fund and venture studio, there will be numerous opportunities for problem solving and to shape the 82VS regional expansion strategy. We collaborate under the shared goal of 82VS and Alloy being a place where our teams and partners can thrive in the mission of making medicine together, and where every individual can grow personally and professionally. The Role As the Director of Biotech Startup Academy, you will be the face for the 82VS Biotech Startup Academy (BSA) and associated programs. You will report directly to the General Partner and President and Head of 82VS Dallas as part of the startup team building our Dallas site. You are someone who enjoys solving operational issues around the launch and execution of an entrepreneurship training program, that will make a direct and visible impact to the Dallas Biotech Ecosystem. We expect multiple new companies to emerge from the BSA and our associated Fellowship program. The role stands at the intersection of academia, budding entrepreneurs, and biotech investors, and seeks to create a collaborative learning environment with the purpose of developing novel drugs for patients.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you will gain first-hand insight into how biotech startups are incubated and launched, and have the opportunity to interact directly with industry leading veterans of BioPharma and the venture capital community. This role will function as the Chief of Staff in Dallas, and you will have the opportunity to assume greater autonomy as the BSA functions streamline and mature.

How You’ll Drive Impact
  • Collaborate and Communicate: As the outward face of the BSA and a key member of the 82VS team in Dallas, you’ll be the front-line communicator for BSA participants, sponsors and community leaders. You’ll thrive in a personal and fast-paced environment where communication and interpersonal interactions are critical to our success.
  • Problem-Solve: Find fast and realistic solutions to unforeseen issues - you like to find the root cause of the problem and solve for it instead of only looking at the surface level.
  • Deliver: In partnership with our external partners as well as internal partners at Alloy and 82VS and the enablement team in Waltham, MA, you will develop best-in-class processes, initiatives and strategies across the BSA and fellowship class cycle.
  • Drive: Have a role in shaping the culture at our site by driving forward initiatives as the BSA develops associated programs such as the BSA Fellowship.
  • Partner: Collaborate with team members and leaders across the company to ensure professional execution of the BSA and related programs.

Principal Responsibilities
  • You will own the event management for the BSA which includes three immersive sessions (2-3 days in length) scheduled at the beginning, middle, and end of our 7-week class cycles. We are launching the BSA with two 20-participant class cycles per calendar year for a total of 40 participants in 2025.
  • You will be the first point of contact for inbound questions and requests related to the Biotech Start-Up Academy, escalating as appropriate.
  • You will own the communication strategy to the BSA community including interacting with candidates, students, alumni, sponsors, instructors, and staff, and manage the coordination and execution of events related to recruiting students and sponsors.
  • You will own the administration of the 82VS Biotech Startup Academy which includes scheduling and facilitating meetings, administering meeting minutes, coordinating with back-office functions at Alloy Therapeutics in Boston.
  • You will own the project management of the Biotech Startup Academy which includes timelines, deliverables, and coordination among stakeholders, and the execution of on-line teaching events as required through the class cycle as well as off-season.
  • You will own the coordination the Pegasus Fellows Program which includes recruiting from BSA students and alumnae, administering the application process, administering candidate evaluation and selection, and assisting the operational elements including 82VS enablement services and local issues specific to Pegasus Park

Pay Transparency
At Alloy Therapeutics, we believe in fostering trust and open communication. For this role, the estimated annual base salary range is $80,000-$110,000, with the final offer based on factors like your experience, skills, and alignment with our needs.

Additionally, this role is eligible for equity compensation, reflecting our commitment to shared success as we work together to make better medicines.
